María Florencia Borrello

María Florencia Borrello holds an MLitt/MA in Communication, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature and Foreign Languages from the Universities of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Saint Andrews (Scotland), and Bergamo (Italy). She is also a graduate English teacher from the I.E.S.L.V. “Juan Ramón Fernández”, and holds a postgraduate diploma in English Literature and Linguistics from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Ciclo de Licenciatura en Inglés). She has extensive experience as an EFL and ESP teacher at the University of Buenos Aires, School of Engineering, as an in-company trainer and as a workshop facilitator for professional development. She has also taught at both private and state schools, at various language institutes and has worked as a Spanish Teaching Assistant and Cultural Ambassador at Hiram College (USA). She has further specialized in Literature at the I.E.S.L.V. “Juan Ramón Fernández” and her main research interests lie in the fields of Postmodern Alter(ed)native Texts, Derridian Deconstruction and the Digital Humanities.

Yael Hasbani

Yael is a graduate English teacher from I.E.S.L.V "Juan Ramón Fernández", and a senior student at the Translation course in the same institution. She finished her specialization in English Literature II, focusing her dissertation on the Literature of Third Places. She holds a Postítulo de Especialización de Nivel Superior en Educación y TIC from Ministerio Nacional de Educación. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in English Literature from Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Ciclo de Licenciatura en Inglés. She has worked for more than 15 years teaching English at primary and secondary school institutions and as a course facilitator for professional development. She also worked at I.E.S.L.V "Juan Ramón Fernández” for 2 years as a Literature II teacher at Teacher Training College. She is currently a lecturer in the subjects Literatura Inglesa II and Taller de Metodologías de la Investigación, Ciclo de Licenciatura en Inglés, Universidad Nacional del Litoral.

The purpose of this presentation is to acquaint participants with forms of new writing (cut-up texts, found poetry, grayed out poetry, blackout poetry, erased poetry, illuminated texts, mash-up art, visual writing, combinatorial texts, unconventional texts, mangas, graphic novels) and new media (navigatory texts, animated texts, video art, video poetry, video logs, digital storytelling, emash-up art) so as to foster discussion on their response to different textual forms, both in print and in electronic form.
- General overview and characteristics of alter(ed)native texts
- Recycled adaptations of canonical texts (cut-up texts, found poetry, grayed out poetry, blackout poetry, erased poetry, illuminated texts, mash-up art, visual writing, combinatorial texts, unconventional texts, mangas, graphic novels, navigatory texts, animated texts, video art, video poetry, video logs, digital storytelling, emash-up art)
- Exploration of Austin Kleon’s Newspaper Blackout and the iPoe Collection and their possible uses in the classroom
- Discussion of new forms of literacy and literary (re)production
Presentation and discussion of alter(ed)native texts. Exploration and hands-on practice built upon Austin Kleon’s Newspaper Blackout and the iPoe Collection. Guided group reflection and exchange of ideas on the main issues raised by the texts under analysis.
