Leonardo Andrés Pantaleo

Leonardo graduated from the University of La Plata as a Teacher of English Language and Literature. He is doing his MA degree in Literary Studies at UBA. He has worked as a Teaching Assistant in Contemporary English Literature for two years and one in English Culture and Civilization at UNLP. He has participated in several academic conferences. For the past fifteen years, he has taught ESL and FLE classes for IGCSE and AS/A English Language and Literature in English at Patris Bilingual School, City Bell, and he has prepared IB candidates at St. George's, Quilmes and at Southern International School. For the past three years, he has developed digital material for an online educational platform.

- To discuss the value of using accurate literary terminology.
- To explore ways of introducing terminology in appealing and creative tasks.
- To reflect upon the use of literary terminology that students can make.
- To offer possible ways of approaching the texts for the IGCSE and A/AS literature exams from a formal perspective that makes use of literary tools.
- Advantages and disadvantages of a systematic and formal approach to IGCSE and A/AS literature.
- Presentation of literary devices using films, songs, advertisement, etc.
- Activities that lead students towards a conscious and creative use of literary tools.
- Possible results of training in literary devices when students face examinations.
- Participants will be encouraged to discuss the benefits of employing specific literary terminology.
- Participants will be invited to actively suggest possible ways of introducing literary devices and of encouraging students to use the corresponding terminology.
- Final reflection and possible guidelines for students' response.
- Using Picture Storybooks to Teach Literary Devices: Recommended Books for Children and Young Adults Volume 3 (Using Picture Books to Teach) by Susan Hall, Oryx Press, 2002.

- A Glossary of Literary Terms by Meyer Howard Abrams and Geoffrey Galt Harpham, Wadsworth Cengage Learning, 2005.

- Examples will be taken from literary texts included in the A/AS syllabus.
