Isabella Entwistle

Isabella Entwistle is a British graduate with a B.A.Hons Literature and a Post Graduate Certifice in Education from the University of Leeds, U.K. Currently at Northlands School, Olivos, Buenos Aires, Isabella has also lived in Madrid, Paris, and Switzerland contracted by International and British schools. A thwarted actress she has undertaken many demanding dramatic roles as well as directing for amateur theatre in Buenos Aires.

- To explore alternative approaches to the teaching of plays. - To exploit the dramatic potential of different discourse genres. - To recognise the role of the actor and the director, space and time in the teaching of a play or scene. - To listen to some of the voices of the last century and discuss their effect on our perceptions of the world. - To experience how art is relevant to life and not only valuable as an instrument for assessment in education.
Sessions will focus on the experience and the dramatic potential of texts in classroom practice. Texts are defined as: play scenes, short stories, speeches, monologues and film clips. - The Stage is an actor's medium. The Word is all important. Analysis involves a consideration of actor's interacting with other actors in time and space. A play is not a novel with the narrative removed and cannot be read and taught as such in class. - Short Stories and Monologues. Analysing the comic and dramatic potential of short stories and monologues for the classroom situation. - Speeches: Looking at speeches from the last century and their relevance to a classroom situation. Methodology: Powerpoint presentations. A reading discussion and viewing of texts and parts of texts. Performance delivery of texts: exploring the power of the word. Use of Film Clips: the power of the image. Participants will be an audience but will also be involved in some improvisation work and active participation in exploring texts in the same way that students are called upon to do.
