Primary School Teachers and first and second year secondary school teachers.
To acquaint teachers with:
- The countless creative reading and writing activities which can be generated by a well chosen story.
- Tales, myths, fables and legends from various cultures.
- Contemporary children’s writers and their latest output.
- A theoretical and practical framework to enable teachers to exploit the rich creative potential in their children in order not to have to resort to boring reading comprehension activities, closes or mechanical yes - no questions which are often to blame for destroying the inherent beauty of stories.
- An analysis of the pros and cons of reading versus telling stories.
- Legends, folk tales, pour quois tales, tall tales, myths, fables, etc, from various cultures.
- Anne Fine's The Same Old Story Every Year, a reader available at Kel's, and other short stories by various contemporary children's writers.
The sessions will be organized in terms of workshops for the participants to enrich their group - work with their inherent creativity.
