We sometimes take for granted that students will understand a text just by reading it several times. But comprehension is a complex skill that requires a conscious effort and is facilitated by the use of specific strategies aimed at such purpose.
The objective of this course is to understand the importance of explicit instruction of Reading Strategies to promote effective reading comprehension and acquire specific strategies to do so.

The following reading Strategies will be shared, to be used before, during and after the actual reading of the text:

Strategies will be presented and modelled by the facilitator. Participants will apply these on an a text that will be provided.
This way, participants will experiment the real use of the strategies so they can be meaningfully incorporated for future use with the students.
