This course proposes a whole language approach to the teaching of writing blended with "Strategies" that according to latest educational research have proven to be the tool to successful learning.
Teachers attending this course will be able to appreciate how the teaching of writing becomes more significant to students when they are taught strategies that real writers use, like "Writing Process" in which writing a first draft and editing work individually or in pairs is part of a writer's real life. "When we develop a community of writers, students have the chance to give help and receive help from others", (Guiding Readers and Writers, Fountas and Pinnell, pag.19, 2002) Teachers will also be able to appreciate how guiding and modelling writing for our students become essential in the learning of writing, as well as allowing them to write independently, how teaching the necessary strategies for students to carry investigations become essential in the writing process.
The workshop will focus on three writing blocks; Independent Writing, Guided Writing and Investigations. This workshop will also help teachers understand the importance of grouping students in small or large groups according to needs and strengths.
