Laura Llobet

Laura Llobet completed 4 years of study at the "Instituto Normal" before being graduated as a Teacher in 1971. Has been teaching at state schools and at private, bilingual schools for more than 30 years. Attended different seminars on education and teaching strategies delivered by professionals from different countries (Britain, Spain, New Zealand, USA, Belgium) and organized workshops for teachers and for parents. Designed an on-line Maths Framework for English Teachers at bilingual schools. Is Maths Coordinator at The British Schools, in Montevideo, since 1988.
Primary school teachers.
When children arrive at school they come with ideas, attitudes and beliefs of their own because they think naturally. All their learning will be influenced by these prior understandings. This is the basis of constructivism. We must acknowledge the dimension of our enterprise, for if we are not teaching children to think, we must be teaching them to think well or, at least, better. Effective Maths teachers demonstrate some distinctive characteristics. Which are they?
