There will be three main parts to this workshop. The first section will look at possible ways to improve a student's attitude to reading, how to find the way in for children having difficulty in reading. Next we will look at the importance of text selection in relation to motivating the child and also in promoting an increase in reading achievement. We will discuss how text selection can help or hinder a student's development in reading. Finally we will develop ways to craft a programme for accelerated progress based on data collection and the student's needs.
A handout outlining the process to be followed in order to develop a programme to meet the student's individual needs will be provided.
