She has four post-graduate degrees and diplomas, including an M. Ed from Cambridge University.
Kate has been involved in educational publishing for 15 years and has written over 100 books, mostly for Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press. Kate was involved in developing key literacy components of Cambridge International Primary Programme and has been Principal Examiner (primary literacy) since the Cambridge International Primary Programme's inception.
Primary Teachers and Heads.
- To discuss, clarify and share assessment processes for writing.
- To mark written scripts, discuss how feedback can most usefully be shared with the child, how to use the feedback to set targets for improvement and how to mark scripts against CIPP criteria.
- To discuss, clarify and share assessment processes for reading.
- To watch videos of UK teachers teaching reading and to listen to UK children reading. To use this as the basis for a discussion about reading assessment, including how to set and teach targets for improvement.
Although discussions will be set in the context of Assessment for Learning, the main focus will be on what teachers actually need to do in the classroom on a day-to-day basis to ensure progression in reading and writing. The discussion and examples will be for teachers of children from age 5 – 12, focusing on the stage of development for the child rather than their age.
Included in the session will be discussions and evaluation of teaching resources available commercially, on the internet or home-made. Teachers will be invited to bring along successful resources to the sessions in order to share good ideas and to celebrate successes.
By the end of the 2 days, teachers should:
- Be more confident in talking to their colleagues about marking, assessment and target setting;
- Have a clearer understanding about what constitutes progress at different stages in both reading and writing;
- Know about a range of resources which can be used to help teachers either to set targets and evaluate progress, or to teach children more effectively.
