Education is concerned with empowering people to become autonomous through the construction of new understanding and knowledge. A professional teacher is someone who is able to reflect critically on his/her own practice, not a preprogrammed automata who delivers predigested material. However, in order to attain this level of independence of thought and action, teachers frequently need advice and support from a leader. This is precisely the role of anyone who is coordinating a group of teachers, whatever the specific title given to this position may be. This seminar aims at addressing the myriad of factors involved in this task, putting them in realistic contexts and working out action plans to carry out effective advisory and supportive roles. It is expected that through a reflective process and the carrying out of workshop tasks, anyone involved in an advisory role will gain insight into the best options available to work alongside teachers on the path to their professional development and empowerment as better educators.
