In By Nightfall, Michael Cunningham explores the life of a middle-class, middle-aged married couple, Peter and Rebecca, and how their well-contented existence is disrupted by the arrival of Rebecca’s younger brother, Ethan, known as Mizzy, short for “The Mistake”. By Nightfall offers an insightful examination of the transitory nature of beauty and our human desire to grasp the fleeting moments of meaningfulness that make up our lives.
