Claudia Ferradas

Dr. Claudia Ferradas is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she got her first degree as a teacher of English at the Instituto de Enseñanza Superior en Lenguas Vivas “Juan Ramón Fernández”. She holds an MA in Education and Professional Development from the University of East Anglia and a PhD in English Studies from the University of Nottingham, UK. She is an experienced presenter and ELT author who travels the world as a teacher educator. She often works as a consultant for the British Council and Trinity College London. She is also a presenter for Oxford University Press and is an Oxford Teachers’ Academy Trainer.
In Argentina, she has taught language and literature at the Instituto de Enseñanza Superior en Lenguas Vivas “Juan Ramón Fernández”, Buenos Aires, where she was also “Regente del nivel superior”. She teaches on the MA programme in Literatures in English at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza. She coordinates the literature and cultural programmes at ESSARP.
In the UK, Claudia has been a Visiting Fellow and research supervisor at the School of Languages, Leeds Metropolitan University, and is now a member of the NILE (Norwich Institute for Language Education) Advisory Board and the Extensive Reading Foundation committee.
Claudia has co-chaired the Oxford Conference on the Teaching of Literature on five occasions and has also worked as Project Manager for the Penguin Active Readers Teacher Support Programme. She has also taught on the MA programme in TEFL at the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, Spain.
She is a member of the editorial committee of several journals: AJAL (Argentine Journal of Applied Linguistics); Revista Interdisciplinar de Formación Docente Kimün (Instituto de Formación Docente Continua, San Luis, Argentina); Conexión, Revista de Investigaciones y Propuestas Educativas (Instituto de Educación Superior N° 28 “Olga Cossettini”, Rosario, Argentina) and CLELE Journal (Children’s Literature in English Language Education).

Susan Cocimano

Drama Teacher/Trainer, Susan specialises in drama and creativity; tools that enable a novel insight for teaching and learning creatively across the curriculum. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Shakespeare from the University of Warwick. Her aim is to encourage both teachers and students to experience Shakespeare in a more dynamic and challenging manner, introducing new techniques and skills. Susan was Coordinator of the Arts Department in secondary at Cardinal Newman (2009-2016) and taught Drama in Education at St. Trinnean Teacher's College (2001-2017). She is a Cambridge Speaking Examiner and co-founder of Full Circle English.

9.00 - 10.15 a.m.: From page to stage and screen - Claudia Ferradas
Objectives:
This introductory session (part of a special event made up of three presentations) will open reflection on ways in which literature interacts with media other than print or ebooks. It will invite discussion on ways in which this interaction can help teachers encourage reading in language and literature classes.
Cotents:
- Exploration on how literature interacts with other media
- Performance poetry
- Dub poetry
- Instapoetry
- Video/film poetry
- Considerations on transmedia
Methodology: The presenter will showcase examples of the artistic forms identified and encourage discussion on their potential for classroom use.

10.15 – 10.45: coffee break

10.45 – 12.15: Make the text stand up and move! - Susan Cocimano
Objectives:
To encourage free movement.
To perceive, think and express through movement.
To develop the use, mastery and control of physical self.
To develop sensitivity through our five senses.
Contents:
- A challenge for teachers:
- Put words into movement or movement in your words.
- Use your senses and your body.
- Make words and text come to life, recreate poetry, prose. find, discover, experiment.
- Experience how words and movement blend and complement each other. A dialogue between them.
Methodology:
We will walk through different activities which you can use and adapt with students.
You will be able to discover the very many interpretations a text can have when movement is involved.
