New research suggests essential roles for leadership at every level of education. Board members and policy makers can support - or undermine - the work of teachers and administrators. New research suggests that the manner in which policy makers evaluate senior leaders is particularly important. Administrative leaders have a direct impact on achievement, particularly in the manner in which they allocate teaching resources and time, and the feedback policies that they maintain in schools. Teacher leaders have profound impact on professional practices of their peers. Finally, new research suggests innovative strategies for student leaders and the relationship between student leadership opportunities and the next generation of senior educational leaders.
