The issues presented in postcolonial writing become clear in Bhatt’s poems. Through the questioning of family traditions, cultural contrasts, adjustments and negotiation, the poetry of Sujata Bhatt navigates the waters of that in-between space that create new languages and new ways of conceiving family relationships, exile and the need for a personal and community identity.
