Heads, Area/Level Coordinators, Heads of Department, and aspiring leaders
This course aims to address the challenge of working in isolation that is shared by school leaders and foster a collaborative approach to leadership development:
- Engage current school leaders and aspiring leaders in ongoing professional development through the Mastermind methodology.
- Create a space for collaborative reflection drawing on academic and professional literature, expert podcasts, best practices from within and beyond the education sector, and the experience of the participants;
- Promote the development of a professional learning network of ESSARP school leaders.
As a group we will adopt the reading schedule of the Mastermind groups in BLBS (Better Leaders Better Schools - https://www.betterleadersbetterschools.com) and discuss the issues that are brought by the members of the Mastermind to the two hot seats each week. We will also share useful/interesting/relevant bibliography on Leadership and Change Management.
The texts for Term 1, 2023 are:
1. Miller, R (2014) Conflict Communication: A New Paradigm in Conscious Communication, Published by Rory Miller at Amazon. (Free pdf version will be shared. Reading begins on the week of March 12)
2. Ladau, E (2021) Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to Be an Ally, Ten Speed Press. (Text must be purchased by participants. Available through Mercado Libre or Amazon in digital / Kindle version. Reading begins on the week of May 14)
Participants will meet synchronously via zoom for a Mastermind group coaching session. Each session will include interactive activities, book/video/podcast discussions, 2 “hot seat” experiences and other short activities to promote the creation of a safe, challenging and fun space for continuous professional development. Homework assignments between sessions involve reading assigned chapters in the book. We will try to have an in-person session around the time of the ESSARP Conference.
