Heads, Area/Level Coordinators, Heads of Department and aspiring leaders
This course offers a short, 4-session experience in a Mastermind group to show how this model of professional development addresses a void in our educational system that seriously undermines the quality and effectiveness of school leadership: the isolated nature of the work of leaders. School leaders don’t lack theoretical background. In fact, they are generally quite knowledgeable about education theories and invest a great amount of time and money in acquiring the pedagogical content knowledge they need to develop their visions and strategies. However, school leaders often lack safe, challenging, and regular spaces for reflection that will allow them to refine the WHY of their leadership and fine-tune the HOW and WHAT of their leadership practices.

To address this leadership challenge, this course aims to:
Create a space for collaborative reflection drawing on academic and professional literature, expert podcasts and best practices from within and beyond the education sector;
Take a first step towards establishing a network of ESSARP school leaders;
Model the impact of Mastermind groups for the professional development of school leaders in an introductory 4 session cycle.
The course will take place over 4 sessions via zoom, every two weeks on Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:45pm.
Dates:
Thurs 22/09
Thurs 06/10
Thurs 20/10
Thurs 03/11
22/09 - Session 1 - Introduction to Mastermind and basic concepts
Aim: Introduction to the Mastermind methodology for professional development and discussion of simple practices and routines to help improve how you use your time as a leader.

06/10 - Session 2 - Mastermind Session
Aim: To reflect on how personal values and decisions affect how successful we can be as school leaders - it’s all in the mindset and the personal vision for education of the leader.

20/10 - Session 3 - Mastermind Session
Aim: Strategic planning: how to write powerful vision statements and objectives to build an aligned strategy for growth and innovation. Why does doing so matter?

03/11 - Session 4 - Mastermind Session and course wrap-up
Aim: Understand the building blocks of school organizations and think systemically and comprehensively about problems of practice in schools using the Harvard Congruence Model.
Participants will meet synchronously via zoom and engage in a Mastermind session led by the course leader. Each session will include interactive activities, book/video/podcast discussions, 2 “hot seat” experiences and other short activities to promote the creation of a safe, challenging and fun place for continuous professional development. Homework assignments between sessions should take no longer than 1-2hs to complete.
