• To gain a historical perspective of the post-war period in America.
This workshop explores the characteristics of the play focusing on the context of production (McCarthyism), the setting (mass immigration of Italians in the 1950s, life in Italy vs. life in America) and the themes of masculinity, homosexuality, justice, betrayal and tragedy.
The facilitator will briefly present information about the background of the play, eliciting information from the participants. Then, she will focus on the themes, opening up a debate with the participants discussing the idea of trespassing borders. She will encourage them to establish intertextual relations with different literary or film texts. For this reason, she will show scenes from episodes of the mini-series Vientos de Agua.
