Language and literature teachers; teachers interested in using film in class.
Exploration and discussion of the concept of cinematic genre. Textual analysis of the following genres: horror, science fiction, romantic comedy, musical, adventure, hybrids.
Definition of genre. The semiotic approach. Textual (syntactic and semantic). Components of each genre. Mise en scene and editing techniques. Implications for the classroom.
Methodology: The audience will watch and analyse different excerpts from all the genres mentioned above. This will be preceded by theoretical introductions where the textual components of each genre will be introduced.
