Teachers who attended the Welcome to IGCSE English Literature Seminar. All teachers interested in exploring the different options offered by the exam papers. All teachers interested in sharing experiences and expertise as regards the Teaching of Literature a pre-IGCSE level (Middle School - Keystage 3).
Session 1: A close-up on IGCSE English Literature Papers and Questions. - To help prospective teachers of IGCSE English Literature. Understand what points are to be considered concerning the teaching of Literature at IGCSE level by examining questions closely and discussing Examiner's Reports. - To further acquaint prospective teachers with the IGCSE approach to the teaching and assessment of Literature. - To share experience as regards the preparation of this exam. Contents: - Teaching Literature at IGCSE level. - Types of Questions. - How to approach the teaching of different genres. - Set books and text-based questions. - The "Unseen" Paper. - Setting Coursework Tasks. Session 2: IGCSE English Literature - A view from Middle School. - To explore and discuss what is involved in the teaching of Literature at preIGCSE level. - To discuss effective teaching practices suitable for younger learners. - To share experiences in developing enthusiasm for reading and Literature in younger learners. Contents: - Literature in Middle School. - Groundwork oriented towards the preparation of the IGCSE exam. - Approaches to the teaching of different genres. - Activities. - Assignments. - "Essay Questions" - Building up critical, informed and personal response to Literature. Note: It is suggested that those people who will attend this course should have read the IGCSE First Language English syllabus in advanced. This syllabus is available from: www.cie.org.uk.
