She has worked specifically with students who have been diagnosed with Learning Disabilities, Behavioural Disorders, Attention Difficulties, as well as ELL (English Language Learner) students who have little to no exposure to the English language. Kelly has an Honours degree in Sociology, A Bachelor’s of Education, as well as a Master’s of Education from York University in Toronto. Her Master’s Thesis consisted of case studies and assessments of her work with Roma Refugee students in Canada, and strategies to help these students succeed in their daily educational life. This workshop is targeted towards educators, principals, and all school staff whom interact/teach students, and would like strategies and ideas as to how to teach all students differently, at an individualized learning level
At the conclusion of this workshop, the participants will be able to:
1. Develop individualized learning experiences for their classrooms, based on the differentiating needs of their students.
2. Understand and apply modifications and accommodations to their daily classroom tasks/student’s work.
3. Explore different methods of assessing students, based on their strengths
This workshop will focus on individualized learning and teaching in the classroom. It will centre around the notion that all students are different; they learn differently, they have varied strengths and weaknesses, and they must all be taught/assessed based on their individual needs. This workshop will explore the opportunities all educators have to individualize the lessons they deliver, as well as acknowledge that success looks very different from one student to the next.
Instructional methodology of teaching to equity will be discussed and explored.
