See the benefits of working with literary texts with children:
- A source of enjoyment and motivation
- Physical involvement
- A holistic use of language
- Creative thinking development
Explore the inclusion of Total Physical Response teaching strategies to foster a bodily experience (blending of mind, body & voice).
Discuss the underlying theoretical framework that combines TPR, Piaget`s developmental stages, Vigotsky`s Zone of Proximal Development & Bruner`s scaffolding.
Think and plan a variety of related activities to work with literary texts in an approach that combines games, interactive reading, reciting, performing, music, dancing & arts & crafts.

We are going to read and work with traditional & contemporary stories, poems, rhymes & popular songs and texts written by contemporary children`s literature writers such as Tony Mitton, Ian Mcmillan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Erwin Morgan, Leo Lionni, Eric Carl, Paul Cookson, Kevin Henkes, Julia Donaldson, Anthony Browne, David Harmer, Shel Silverstein, among others.
Workshop:
A hands-on approach to teaching literature in the classroom in which participants will discuss and apply concepts, brainstorm creative teaching ideas, develop supporting teaching strategies to enhance their own practice and carry out some of the activities in class.
Plays, songs, poems and nursery rhymes are the teaching content to experiment with sounds, words and meaning. Stories will be read, mimicked, performed and retold by means of different techniques: posing for pictures, creating a graphic version of the story, designing a story carpet, among others.
