- To develop and extend participants' understanding of theory and practice of writing teaching and learning within a primary school setting.
- To assist participants to extend their personal knowledge and use of a range of text types.
- To provide participants with opportunities to apply their knowledge to the development of successful writing programmes.
- Discussion and application of theoretical models of writing.
- Exploration and analysis of text features of a range of forms of writing.
- Strategies for developing classroom writing programmes in relation to aspects such as scaffolded instruction, teacher modelling of writing, monitoring and assessing progress, motivation of students, organisation and management.
- Modelling, shared and guided writing.
- Celebration: sharing students' writing.
- Editing conferences (content and conventions).
- Writing assessment (including 6 trait writing assessment).
- Publishing.
