Laura Llobet

Laura Llobet completed 4 years of study at the "Instituto Normal" before being graduated as a Teacher in 1971. Has been teaching at state schools and at private, bilingual schools for more than 30 years. Attended different seminars on education and teaching strategies delivered by professionals from different countries (Britain, Spain, New Zealand, USA, Belgium) and organized workshops for teachers and for parents. Designed an on-line Maths Framework for English Teachers at bilingual schools. Is Maths Coordinator at The British Schools, in Montevideo, since 1988.
Children learn through their discoveries and discussion. Exploring patterns and relationships - the key to mathematical thinking. Practical suggestions for teaching mathematics. Sample activities. - To share my experiences in teaching mathematics in English to children whose mother tongue is Spanish, defening the theory that it is possible to interact with mathematical ideas within the frames of a second language. - To give practical suggestions and help teachers plan happy, active, and useful mathematics lessons. - To help students develop the ability to think and reason logically. - To develop an inquisitive attitude towards mathematical patterns and structures, encouraging a continuing and creative interest in this subject. - To extend teachers' knowledge of mathematical ideas and techniques.
