Sue Lloyd

Sue has been a teacher for 28 years at Woods Loke Primary School in Lowestoft, Suffolk. For most of her career she taught the Reception class (4-5 year olds). During this time she, and her colleague Sara Wernham, developed Jolly Phonics. This rogramme evolved when the method of teaching was changed from a "look and say" one to a "synthetic phonics" approach. By showing how the alphabetic code works, from the beginning, the children learnt more easily, with far fewer experiencing reading and writing problems. The programme, which is very suitable for young children, is active, fun and multi-sensory. It has been found to be beneficial for all types of children, including non-English speakers, dyslexics and children with special educational needs. Sue Lloyd has given training in 19 different countries around the world, from Australia to Kuwait and Canada to Guyana. Even though she has now retired from the classroom she continues to give training.
