What is Leadership? by Dr. Karen Edge (University of London & University of Toronto)
As teachers and leaders, we are challenged on a daily basis to bring about change in our classrooms, schools and organisations. Even the most skilled educational professional meets stumbling blocks that challenge their ability to inspire meaningful collaboration between professionals and changes in individual and collective professional practice.
Dr. Edge brings together cutting edge research and thinking from within and beyond education together to create an interactive, thought provoking and inspiring sessions that will explore key leadership challenges that will influence your thinking as classroom, school and organisation-wide leaders.
The sessions will explore:
1) What shapes personal and professional mindsets;
2) What makes collaboration happen;
3) How to understand and make the most of social network/ties within your organisations;
4) How knowledge management can influence collaboration;
5) What really makes people change their practice; and,
6) How successful individuals create enduring happiness and success.
- 19 April from 10.00 to 1.00 pm
Change or Transition? New Skills Adaptive Leaders should Develop by Susan Giordano and Irene Brito (Educational Consultants)
Managing learning organizations in times of change is a difficult task for leaders. They may have a clear picture of where they want to go, but staff members generally find the situation threatening and uncertain.
Adaptive leaders must know that Change and Transition are not the same. It is not just telling people to stop doing things the old way and getting them to do them a new way. Leaders must acquire transition skills and techniques in order to help their people navigate through the situational shifts brought about by change in order to lead with confidence, communicate with clarity and bring down resistance.
Leaders and Staff members will then celebrate a new beginning, a new system and a new sense of belonging.
