Pre-school and first cycle teachers.
This course will focus on some aspects of young children’s language development and the relationship between language and reading acquisition.
Participants will learn:
- Concepts central to language development
- Concepts of emergent literacy
- Models of reading acquisition and skilled reading development
The course will combine a series of presentations with a few hands on activities in which participants will explore notions of phonological development and emergent literacy. Current approaches to beginning reading instruction will be discussed in the frame of the concepts learned during the course. The course is geared to kindergarten, pre-school and early elementary school teachers, as well as practitioners interested in the overlapping areas of language development and early reading acquisition.
