Literary texts provide unique ways of representing and exploring the workings of the human mind and the alternative inner world of the other: they are bridges into the self and into otherness. Julian Barnes’s collections The Lemon Table and Pulse offer witty and thought-provoking inshights into the lives of men and women who experience lost love, failed art, old age and human folly.
