1- To share the joys of reading.
2- To discuss Anthony Burgess’s statement: (a good literary novel) "must leave in the reader's mind a sort of philosophical residue. A view of life has been indirectly propounded that seems new, even surprising".
3- To get acquainted with the Booker McConnell Prize (founded in 1969) and its development since then. This Prize was financed by this company (a multinational conglomerate) until April 2002 when the Booker Prize Foundation announced that Man Group (a broking business) was the new commercial sponsor. The Man Booker Prize is awarded to writers from the British Commonwealth and Ireland. This is done annually by a panel of judges for what, in their opinion, is the best full-length novel published in the previous 12 months. The award is accompanied by considerable publicity and media excitement.
