Squeezed in the middle between Primary and Secondary School the Middle School pupil and curriculum often gets overlooked. This is a chance to re- think our approaches in the light of new demands on puberty, teachers and curriculum trends. 1st Session: This will be an opportunity to look at the physical development of young adolescents and its influence on teaching in the classroom. Areas such as self esteem, gender differences, classroom management will be discussed. 2nd Session: Will continue to look at the development of young adolescents focusing on the cognitive area. Discussion on curriculum content including study skills, best teaching strategies, as well as motivation will follow. 3rd Session: Finally, an overview of the social and emotional development of middle school pupils with discussion around the subject of parents role, peer group pressure, and to attempt to understand the classroom dynamics prevalent in these Middle years.
