Glennis Oliver

She is a British-trained teacher who has taught in London, the Caribbean and Argentina. Her teaching and management experience is wide and includes all areas of school. As a freelance educator, she has lectured on various educational issues and has developed teacher-training modules for use in local bilingual schools.

María Cristina Álvarez de Toledo

Cristina´s experience in teaching covers a wide range of ages since she has taught Junior, Middle and Senior School students. For the past thirteen years she has been the Head of both the Middle and the Senior Sectors of a school in the northern suburbs.

To review the developmental stages of children from 12 to 15 years and to investigate how these influence learning in the Middle School years.
First Session: This will be an opportunity to look at the physical development of young adolescents and its influence on teaching in the classroom. Areas such as self esteem, gender differences, classroom management will be discussed. Second Session: Will continue to look at the development of young adolescents focusing on the cognitive area. Discussion on curriculum content including study skills, best teaching strategies, as well as motivation will follow. Third Session: Finally, an overview of the social and emotional development of middle school pupils with discussion around the subject of parents role, peer group pressure, and trying to understand the classroom dynamics prevalent in these Middle years. Methodology: Lecture reviewing developmental stages followed by discussion of the relevant challenges seen in our schools today.
