Firstly, we will examine how our brain works when reading in a foreign language. Once having done so, we will suggest teaching strategies for all students to enjoy and benefit from the use of literary texts by Michael Morpurgo in the EFL class. We’ll be analysing extracts from The Butterfly Lion, Kensuke’s Kingdom and An Elephant in the Garden. It won’t be necessary to have read these novels. We intend to show how students profit from the teaching of reading strategies used in the literature class and can transfer these skills to all sorts of texts.
