This course offers a short, 4-session experience in a Mastermind group to show how this model of professional development addresses a void in our educational system that seriously undermines the quality and effectiveness of school leadership: the isolated nature of the work of leaders. School leaders don’t lack theoretical background. In fact, they are generally quite knowledgeable about education theories and invest a great amount of time and money in acquiring the pedagogical content knowledge they need to develop their visions and strategies. However, school leaders often lack safe, challenging, and regular spaces for reflection that will allow them to refine the WHY of their leadership and fine-tune the HOW and WHAT of their leadership practices.
To address this leadership challenge, this course aims to:
Create a space for collaborative reflection drawing on academic and professional literature, expert podcasts and best practices from within and beyond the education sector;
Take a first step towards establishing a network of ESSARP school leaders;
Model the impact of Mastermind groups for the professional development of school leaders in an introductory 4 session cycle.
