Teachers at Secondary level
1. Anonymous Writing
Time: 5.30 p.m.
Pilar Capaul
Pilar Capaul is a 21-year-old teacher by day and also a trainee at Teachers Training College . She teaches at Colegio Newlands and International House.
Apart from her College studies, she has attained a CELTA degree with an A and is currently looking forward to finishing her IHC in ELE course, which has allowed her to work with foreign students and given her lots of great experiences.
Abstract
This session will show how teachers can recycle language while students have fun writing about a mysterious person they will eventually have to discover. It will involve all 4 macro skills and encourage students to use their creativity to work individually and collaboratively on something that is meaningful to them.
2. SMART Technology
Time: 5.50 p.m.
John Cavernelis
John is a South African English teacher who has, over time, developed a real passion for all things tech.
Abstract
In a pre-pandemic educational system, some schools (those who could afford it) had access to interactive whiteboards, an example of which were the SMART boards. This allowed learners to be hands on with their learning.
SMART has now teamed up with Google and brought their technology to everyone, on their own devices. This opens up a brave new world for teachers who can have all the benefits of the interactive lesson without a massive expenditure.
This course will aim to show off some of these tools in the hope of helping teachers to become more successful in the delivery of their lessons.
3. Am I looking close enough?
Time: 6.10 p.m.
Silvia Pereiro
Silvia is a graduate Fine Arts teacher (1973) who studied scenography at the Colón Theatre. She was awarded numerous prizes and exhibited her Art in Argentina.
Her work includes the delivery of courses in several museums including Casa de la Cultura in San Isidro and an artistic experience with the Wichi Community in Formosa.
She worked as an Art teacher in various institutions (preparing IGCSE / A and AS Art & Design). She is currently working at Bede´s Grammar School.
Abstract
Based on the famous codex seraphinianus (by Luigi Serafini) pupils designed a mural for the school working in couples. The topic was to create an imaginary world with strange plants and shapes! They were outstanding and the results show that!
