- Demonstrate appropriate understanding and use of terminology to describe teacher/learner language and behaviour.
- Familiarize participants with lesson components and how to combine them to achieve a variety of purposes.
- Explore participants' planning skills.
- Analyze how the interaction of variables in the classroom affects meeting the objectives of the lesson and effective learning.
Module 1: Are my teacher/learner beliefs reflected in my lessons? How do learners learn what I teach? Analysis of classroom context. Meeting syllabus standards while catering for different learner levels.
Module 2: What does planning involve? Balance of work plan components and the diagnosis. Long term and short term planning. Selection of lesson components: aims, contents, skills, strategies, activities, resources, assessment.
Module 3: Criteria for sequencing lesson components. Alternatives to formal planning: "critical learning" moments. Lesson effectiveness: making learning happen.
Module 4: Classroom variables and the unexpected. Achieving lesson coherence. Interactive decisions that work. Planning for heterogeneous classes. Professional work plans.
